IBM iSeries Client Access is a Windows-based connectivity and administration suite for IBM i systems (formerly AS/400 and iSeries). It provides the tools needed to run 5250 applications, move data to and from IBM i, and manage system resources from a PC.

Key capabilities:

  • 5250 terminal and printer emulation with optional SSL/TLS security
  • Data Transfer utilities for moving data between IBM i (DB2 for i) and spreadsheets/databases
  • ODBC, OLE DB, and .NET data providers for application and reporting integration
  • iSeries Navigator (Operations Navigator) for GUI-based system management, including users, printers, jobs, and objects
  • Integrated File System access and network drive mapping
  • Remote command execution and scripting support
  • Single sign-on options, including Kerberos-based authentication

Typical uses:

  • Running green-screen applications from Windows desktops
  • Building reports and integrations that query DB2 for i via standard drivers
  • Administering IBM i systems without using command-line interfaces exclusively
  • Transferring data to Excel/CSV and importing external data to IBM i

Notes:

  • This is a legacy Windows client; it has been superseded by IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS), a modern, cross-platform replacement.
  • Feature availability can vary by version; consult your environment’s version documentation for specifics.

IBM iSeries Client Access is developed by CCEAG. The most popular version of this product among our users is 5.7.
